Kahilu Theatre is proud to present the show “Waimea Community Chorus Rocks the 70s” for the group’s 26th annual spring concert at 7 p.m. Saturday.

An honored tradition in the town of Waimea, the Waimea Community Chorus (WCC) is adding new value to classic hit songs that people know and love so well. WCC takes on a variety of music spanning the entire decade of the 1970s, with over 50 voices joining together under the direction of Barbara Kopra.

The concert features hit songs from popular artists such as Crosby, Stills, Nash, &Young, Joni Mitchell, John Lennon, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Stevie Wonder and many more.

“The chorus is enjoying working on the music. Many of the members are taking joy in reminiscing where they were when they first heard a particular song, but the most challenging thing is to make the choral music sound like the original,” Kopra said in a press release.

After this performance, 15 members of the group are headed to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall in June.

The performance Saturday will feature several smaller focus groups in addition to the full choir numbers. Not only will the WCC members be rocking out on stage with some great classics, but they will also be accompanied by Alex Czerny on piano, Larry Boucher on drums, and Joe Barry on bass.
